THE LIGHTFOOT-JONES FAMILY REUNION PRESENTS

 *SANKOFA* 2003

“We must go back & reclaim our past to move forward with knowledge & understanding”

According to the 1870 census Lake Village, Arkansas in Chicot County has been the home of the Lightfoot family since the 1840s and other records indicate it was the home of the Jones family since 1890. We have since branched out and now live in many different parts of the United States and the world. This reunion will be a homecoming, so save the dates:

Friday August 8 through Sunday August 10, 2003

Lake Village, Arkansas

If you and your immediate family members plan to attend this reunion, you must let the LJFR committee know of your intentions. The last mailing contained important information regarding lodging, transportation and proposed activities. The number of response sheets returned to the committee at our P.O. Box has been low. We have, however, received a lot of verbal interest in family members wishing to go to Lake Village for the reunion. It is hard for the committee to plan a successful weekend without firm commitments along with money to back the commitments up. Our cousin Minister LaRon McKelker graciously offered his telephone to receive messages from any family member who wants to attend the reunion. Call (773) 874-4600 with the details of your intentions including whether we should reserve a seat for you on the bus ($87.00 round trip from Chicago), alternative mode of transportation (car, airplane), lodging, when we can expect your money, how many will be in your party, etc. The time to do this is NOW!

Recap of Important Information

  • Adult Reunion Fee (16 yrs & older) $60.00; Children (6-15) $35.00; Children under 6 free. Fees include meals for entire weekend (Friday evening mixer, Saturday dinner dance & Sunday picnic plus T-shirt and reunion souvenir book.
  • Room blocks are still in effect for the LakeShore Motel (1-870-265-2238) in Lake Village, AR and the Hampton Inn (1-800-HAMPTON) in Greenville, MS. Please refer to the mailing packet sent last fall for additional lodging facilities in the area.
  • A 56-passenger luxury bus will be contracted for the weekend if we are able to secure enough interest from the family. So far only 21 family members have signed up for the bus. We will not have enough money for a deposit and be able to pay the driver if at least 30 more people do not sign up to ride the bus. $87.00 round trip is a bargain! All monies must be in by June 1, 2003! You are responsible for any other mode of transportation you choose. We encourage you to plan ahead for best rates.
  • Cousin Eunice still needs your recipes, pictures and stories for the souvenir book.
